American lyric baritone STEVEN MORTIER is noted for his warmth of singing combined with bold dramatic interpretations and solid musicianship. Mr. Mortier has displayed his versatile talents season after season, by meeting the demands of a wide variety of genres.
Mr. Mortier made his solo debut at Carnegie Hall  as bass soloist with the New England Symphonic Ensemble under the baton of John Rutter, in Haydn'sThe Creation and bass soloist at Lincoln Center in NY City at Avery Fischer Hall with The National Chorale in the Messiah and was bass soloist in Haydn’s Mass In Time of War with the Oregon EastSymphony.  Mr. Mortier has performed the role of the Traveler in Spoleto Festival USA’s production of Curlew River, with Pittsburgh Opera he was seen in L'Elisir d’Amore as Dr.Dulcamara.  With Lake Charles Symphony in their fully staged production of Oklahoma he performed the role of Curley and returned to Lake Charles Symphony to lead the cast as the King in The King and I. He has sung the role of Don Quixote in The Man of La Mancha with Spokane Opera and performed the title role of Gianni in Pucinni’s one act opera Gianni Schicchi with North Bay Opera and again in Idaho with University of Idaho. Mr. Mortier made his debut with Spokane’s Civic Theatre in the role of Rochester in their fully staged production of Jane Eyre the musical. He also debuted in the role of Don Magnifico in La Cenerentola and sang the role of Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, both with Coeur D’Alene Opera as well as the role of the Baron in Verdi’s La Traviata. Mr. Mortier made his debut with Coeur D’Alene Opera in the role of Belcore in L’Elisir D’Amore He has been heard as a soloist for Spokane Opera’s 25th Anniversary Gala performance at the Fox, as well as bass soloist in Handel’s Messiah with the Coeur D’Alene Symphony. 
As an expert in Mozart and Rosinni opera’s, he has been heard many different productions across the country including the lead role of Figaro in The Le Nozze Di Figaro with Mississippi Opera,  Tacoma Opera,Tri-Cities Opera (NY), Willamette Concert Opera and Figaro again as a special guest and clinician with  Southern Utah University. Mr. Mortier has been seen as Don Giovanni’s hapless apprentice, Leporello in Don Giovanni with Tacoma Opera, and Spokane Opera. He has also sung the role of the Count in Le Nozze Di Figaro with many companies including Opera Plus, Spokane Opera and Rainier Lyric Opera of Seattle. Mr. Mortier has performed the role of Masetto in Don Giovanni with many companies including Opera Pacific in California, Opera Birmingham and Mississippi Opera and the role of Schaunard in La Boheme with Whiitewater Opera in Indiana and Sorg Opera in Ohio.
With Tri-Cities Opera (NY) his principal roles include the Barber (Figaro) in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Marcello in La Bohemethe High Priest in Samson et Dalila, Reverand Hale in The Cruciblethe lead role of Mustafa in L’Italiana in AlgeriCaptain Corcoran in H. M. S. Pinafore, Baron Zeta in The Merry Widow and Melchoir in Amahl and the Night Visitors among others. With such company’s as Chautauqua Opera, Birmingham Opera,Opera PacificOpera Grand Rapids, Sorg Opera and the Vallejo Symphony, he has sung leading roles in Don Giovanni, Madama Butterfly, FalstaffThe Bartered Bride, La Boheme and The Tenderland, and a special production of Weill's Mahagonny in the role of Trinity Moses led by the famous Kent Nagano in San Francisco. 
 Mr. Mortier has a private voice studio in North Spokane.
